In yet another shocking incident from Uttar Pradesh in recent times, a 13-year-old girl was gang-raped and killed in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, around 130km from Lucknow. As per police reports, her body was found in the sugarcane field. The incident took place on Friday. The Police have arrested two men. The incident took place on Friday under Isanagar police station limits, they said.
The teenager had gone to her fields on Friday afternoon. When she did not return home till late evening, her parents and relatives started looking for her. They noticed some dragging marks near a sugarcane field and found her body, the police said.
She had been strangled, her eyes were gouged out and her tongue cut, the girl’s father said. The girl’s father has denied enmity with anyone in the village.
The UP Police said the post-mortem report that came out on Sunday night does not show her eyes were gouged out or tongue cut. The police said the autopsy mentioned rape and strangulation.
“Her eyes were not gouged and tongue was not cut. The claim is not true. There is nothing in the post-mortem report to suggest this. There were scratches near the eyes, likely due to the sharp sugarcane leaves where the body was found,” SP of Kheri Satendra Kumar said to NDTV.
After recovering the dead body, the relatives of the girl accused two men Santosh Yadav and Sanjay Gautam for raping and killing her. The two men are residents of the same village. The police filed a complaint based on the statements of the relatives. On 15th August, the post-mortem report came back, and it confirmed gang rape of the child.

The police then registered a case against the two for gang rape and murder. Satyendra Kumar, SP Lakhimpur Kheri said that the post-mortem report confirmed rape. They have started the investigation under NSA as well.
ASP Singh said they have been booked under Sections 302 (murder) and 376 (d) (gang rape) of the Indian Penal Code on the basis of a complaint filed by the victim’s father, and that they will be charged under the stringent National Security Act (NSA).
UP Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu has labeled the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh as ‘jungle raj’, alleging an “unholy nexus” between criminals and the police. He said people of the state, especially women, are being traumatized by the attitude of the criminals and the police, and the incident in Lakhimpur Kheri has shamed the entire state.
Former CM and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav tweeted with the hashtag #NomoreBJP, saying this ruthless killing of a helpless teenager after being brutally raped is a jolt for humankind, and alleging that the persecution of girls and women has hit extremes under the BJP regime in UP.
However, UP BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi responded: “The main accused have been arrested, the police have done their job. Strict action will be taken against the accused. The opposition allegations of ‘jungle raj’ are baseless. the BJP government has always taken strict action against all criminals.”
This unfortunate incident comes days after a six-year-old girl was kidnapped and raped in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh. The accused, Dalpat, who had been evading arrest for a week, was arrested by Hapur Police after a gunfight with the police.
