In India or in most parts of the world it is often seen that domestic workers are always exploited either mentally or physically, from low wages and more working hours to getting physically harassed they face it all. But, one thing that keeps them working despite the inhumane treatment is the fear of losing their job.
However, come what may, taking laws in your hands is never an option, it will only land you in more trouble instead of fixing the issues. In a heart-wrenching incident in Lajpat Nagar, New Delhi, a teenage boy approached and surrendered in a police station in Sahidabad and confesses that he murdered his employer as she was forcing him for sex.
15 months back the boy was looking for work when the employers came in touch with him at New Delhi Railway Station. The 16-year-old boy was then hired by them as a domestic help. After surrendering, the boy confessed that the employer Anita often used to pressurize her for engaging in a physical relationship with her.
The boy also told that in order to avoid her sexual advances, he had earlier threatened her that he would kill her. But this did not deter her. She used to threaten her, that she would lodge a sexual harassment complaint against him if he did not sleep in bed with her.
As he couldn’t take it anymore, on Wednesday night when she was alone at home and was watching TV, he entered her room, grabbed her by the neck and slit her throat with a kitchen knife. Her husband Ompal was at work when the incident happened.
“She was found lying on the floor in a pool of blood. There was no one at home, apart from her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter who was found sleeping in the bedroom,” Anup Singh, Circle Inspector of police was quoted as saying in the DNA report.
“The boy arrived at the police station in tears and stated that he had murdered his employer. He said that since he felt guilty for committing the crime he came directly to the police station“, he added.
While what happened with the boy was really distressing and no one deserves to go through that, he should have approached the authorities first, as taking playing with laws is never justified and he too is guilty of a crime now.
