Once Tagore wrote,”If They Answer not to thy call walk alone…” the residents of Telangana did something similar and proved that, if there is a will there is a way.
Tired of complaining about the bad condition of the city roads, mostly of which were broken and unmade, to the local government, the people of Hyderabad decided to take matter in their own hands.
SourceThey had been complaining about the poor condition of the roads since past one year when Ivanka Trump’s, daughter of US President Donald Trump visited. But they got no positive response from the Telangana Municipal Minister KT Rama Rao other than empathy.
In the month of November, last year, many roads of Hyderabad and Cyberabad got a facelift as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ivanka Trump were visiting those places. But, unfortunately, the fate of the places they didn’t visit remained same.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee official spokesperson M Krishank, held a protest near St Johns Junior College at Sangeeth Cross Roads. But all went in vain. That was the moment when they decided to take the matter up to themselves.
“Last year when only few roads were beautified, we requested Ivanka Trump to visit Marredpally so that the government would repair our roads. Neither did Ivanka Trump come nor did the government repair our road. So we got onto the streets, pulled our sleeves up and attempted to repair it,” read Krishank’s Facebook post made in ‘Marredpally days’ group.
The Facebook post received many positive comments. “The response was great as a few people came up to us and asked if they could join us as well,” Krishank stated while talking to The News Minute.
They took a step further and named the road ‘KTR-Ivanka Trump Road’ referring to Telangana Municipal Minister KT Rama Rao and Ivanka Trump.
In a developing country like India, where the government is reluctant to take step about most of the minor issues, this view of local residents taking part in repairing the roads deserves the attention of the concerned authorities.
