Virat Kohli yesterday shared a video of wife Anushka Sharma pulling up a man for throwing garbage outside of his “luxury car” on the streets. The video immediately went viral with media picking it up and people pulling up the man in the car who was throwing garbage on the road.
“Why are you throwing garbage on the road? Don’t throw garbage on the road. Please be careful. You can’t just throw plastic around like that on the streets. Use a dustbin,” Anushka can be heard scolding him.
Saw these people throwing garbage on the road & pulled them up rightfully. Travelling in a luxury car and brains gone for a toss. These people will keep our country clean? Yeah right! If you see something wrong happening like this, do the same & spread awareness. @AnushkaSharma pic.twitter.com/p8flrmcnba

While, till yesterday no one was aware of the identity of the man, today he has come out in open, posting a rant against Kohli and Anushka for their “irresponsible act”. The man Arhhansingh, took a screenshot from the video and posted against the couple,“So I happened to carelessly Litter a sq mm of plastic while driving! A car passing by rolls their window down and there we have our wonderful @anushkasharma ranting and yelling like a crazy roadside person! While I’m apologetic for my carelessness, Mrs. Anushka Sharma Kohli a little etiquette and politeness in ur dialogue wouldn’t have made u a lesser star !! There are all kinds of manners and hygiene .. verbal etiquette is one of them !”
He further added,
“The garbage that mistakenly went out of the window of my “luxury car”… Was way less then the garbage that came out from your mouth… From ur “luxury car’s” window… Or the trashy mind @virat.kohlito shoot and post this online… For whatever gains… Now thats some serious trash!!!”
His mother also came out in his support and wrote against the couple for causing a trauma to his son and violating his privacy.
The tweet has started a debated on social media with one-half of the people supporting the couple’s act of sharing the video while the other half saying it was wrong to share the video without blurring out the face of the man.
While the man in the video and his mother have all the rights to put their side of the story on social media their response doesn’t come as a surprise. We Indians have a habit of getting offended even when it’s for our betterment. Our ego gets hurt when someone tries to correct us and instead of accepting our mistake we love countering the person and reminding him/her how it’s none of his/her business to correct us. In October 2017, a Delhi E-Rickshaw driver was murdered by 3 persons after he objected to public urination by the three, this is just one of a large number of cases where people have resorted to killing the other person for petty issues such as objecting to spreading garbage in the open.
While everyone wants a Swacch Bharat, many of us feel that it’s not their duty to be a part of it. Had there been someone else in place of Anushka and Virat we don’t know what the consequences would have been in the case. While we agree that looking at their size of the audience, Kohli and Anushka could have been more careful with blurring the face of the man, it’s also important that we Indians start keeping our ‘Indian ego’ in check and start appreciating when people object to our wrongdoings instead of going after them.
