Aditya Rao, 35-year-old resident of Manipal, was arrested on Wednesday for making a series of hoax bomb threats to the Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru.
The suspect had dubbed the ”Catch Me If You Can” caller, a crime film, starring Leonardo Di Caprio for reference. The reason being he was apparently denied a job as a security guard earlier at the airport, he revealed as to why he did the hoax.
After getting the numbers online, the accused called the nodal officer of AirAsia India on Monday due to which there was a delay in a flight for about forty-five minutes.
According to a report by TNM, “The suspect claims that since they (airport authorities) denied him a job, he wanted to make them pay for it. He searched numbers on the internet and made the calls using two SIM cards. He switched off the phone as soon as he made the call,” said the police official.
Aditya who holds a mechanical degree in MBA, arrived in Bengaluru six months ago seeking a job. He graduated from an institute in Mysuru in 2008, after which he was a sales manager at ICICI Bank and later did a job at HSBC Bank. He also worked as an insurance agent for Aditya Birla Life Insurance and as a design engineer with another firm.
“After his job as an insurance agent, he took up small-time jobs, first as a cook at the Suttige Mutt in Udupi and later as a security guard at Alvas College in Dakshina Kannada. His family urged him to come to Bengaluru in search of a better job,” the police inspector added.
When questioned about his decision for taking a job of a security guard and not being able to continue his past jobs, the suspect mentioned that he wanted to take an “easy job”.
The police are still looking into the matter even though it wasn’t a serious threat and re-verifying all the details he has given after getting arrested.
