Bihar: The SHO (Station House Officer) of Muzaffarpur along with two cops have been suspended on Monday for alleged involvement in liquor smuggling.
After the raid was conducted by the excise department and the police on the official residence of SHO Kumar Amitabh on Sunday evening, all the other personnel posted at the police station were also removed from their respective posts.
A large amount of cash, liquor bottles register containing names, addresses and details of transactions with Liquor Mafia were seized.
As per reports, on the condition of anonymity, a member of the raid team said, “It contains names of liquor smugglers and their details. But the station diary had no entry of any liquor seizure, though this police station area is notorious for liquor smuggling. There has also been a sharp decline in liquor seizure in the last four-five months.”
IG Tirhut zone Sunil Kumar said that they had received more than 20 complaints against the SHO and other police personnel’s bad attitude. He also mentioned that Amitabh, the SHO was barely on the post from the past two months.
“We had received complaints through posts and phone calls against the Motipur police and their nexus with liquor smugglers,” said IG (prohibition) Ratan Sanjay Katiyar.
A special team was set up to conduct the raid at the official residence of the station house officer (SHO) after an FIR was lodged against the police personnel involved in the unlawful activities.
