Oh just few days to go for International Women’s Day and we’ve already got you something you’d love to raise a toast. Uterus, cervix, ovaries, breasts- all the bodily assets that a woman is blessed with so as to become the life-carrier, are very much prone to be invaded by the fatal cancer. Well, we can’t really call cancer ‘fatal’ anymore for with advancements in health sciences, it has become way more curable than before. But the treatment and its aftermaths are no less of a challenge.

The 43 YO Bollywood Diva Sonali Bendre has recently talked about her ordeal with cancer. She says she tasted victory after her surgery, that get chemotherapy sessions were painful but she conquered them all because she wanted to live with all her will power. However, she has lost her lovely locks and is now rocking her bold bald look.

Honestly, it is easier. A lot of baggage is off. Somewhere I realised, I was hiding a lot behind my hair. It is nice to look at it from all angles. My body is different, but I am making peace with it. It takes a lot of threshold to do that. I will be ok with my imperfections. I will find beauty in them”, says a happy Sonali.

Inspired? Okay, wait. That’s not it and we want you to meet another gorgeous fighter who has not only defeated cancer twice but is also breaking every stereotype with her The Bald Indian Bride photoshoot. She’s Vashnavi Poovanedran who uses the name Navi Indran Pillai for her Insta handle.

Vashnavi always wanted to be a bride- a beautiful, a gorgeous one. But before the could meet her groom, she met with breast cancer in 2013 at the tender age of 23. She went through vigorous chemotherapy and a lumpectomy surgery before she was declared cancer free in 2015. Her cancer turned out to be a stubborn one and so did she. Her cancer hit her again in 2018 and she defeated it again, like a boss!

However, the victory didn’t come for free. She lost a lot in the meantime, including her hair. But not her courage, her strength, her determination and her soulful laughter.

“Nothing can stop me….nope, NOTHING! Not even CANCER!,” she shouted out to life again and made a comeback with a bridal photoshoot. Here are a few pics of her wherein she looks like she has just walked out of a dream! Every bride is beautiful but Vashnavi certainly stands out in the crowd! How can someone help but not melt seeing that pretty smile and those lively eyes!

Cancer treatments has given us alot of limitations, has robbed us from beauty and taken away our confidence. As a little girl, we have always dreamt of what our big day will be like and how we would look as a bride. But having cancer has stripped some of us from fulfilling these dreams. Alot of cancer survivors has postponed or even cancelled their big day. For me, as a cancer survivor, I dreamt the day I marry the love of my life. Dreamt, what it is like to look like a bride, to feel like a bride. Having gone through cancer treatments (chemotherapy, etc.), losing my hair was by far the hardest thing I ever had to go through. I felt that I was not beautiful enough to be loved and was not beautiful enough to look or ever feel like a bride. Hair, it is our 'crowning glory' and having that taken away from you is devastating. But we choose to accept what we have, appreciate what we are and welcome what is coming. So here it is, *Bold Indian Bride* ****************************************************** Bangles & Bridal Anklet : @desirec.my Silk Saree & Bridal Veil : @pattushastra Photography: @celesgrd Assisted by: @shi.vaa90 Make-up & Styling : @blushbeautybeyond Assisted by : @emmanuel_ravi98 Henna: @bdazzled_beauty #kissedbycancer #cancersucks #cancersurvivor #youngadultcancer #letsfcancer ** A huge thank you to the team. You guys made my dream come true. Not only I looked like a bride, I felt like a bride and it was all thanks to the wonderful team for bringing it to life. I am so grateful to have met such wonderful people. I am extremely blessed for the amount of love and support I have received. Scrolling through the pictures, tears rolled down because I got to have my dream come true and it is because you guys made it happen for me. I am extremely grateful. Thank you all so much. Lots of love, Navi

Dear ladies, as some of us are busy buying fairness cream to lighten our skin tone, using filters to hide our acnes or crying over our wide hips- these ladies have something really important to tell us. Beauty doesn’t lie in one’s face. Not sure if it lies in the eyes of the beholder but it certainly lies on one’s soul and character. Hug yourself, ladies and not your reflection in the mirror. Because you’re beautiful when you’re ‘you’.
