A disability that motivates a person to work harder than before and shine in every aspect can never be a hurdle in the path of their success and thus they aren’t called disabled, rather they are differently-abled. And an initiative to help them in their journey has been taken by the Indian government which leaves a remarkable amendment in the judicial system of the nation.
It was only possible after the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 was passed by the Parliament, reservation quota for people suffering from mental and physical disabilities and acid attack victims were being enacted according to the officials.
People with Autism mental illness intellectual disabilities and victims of acid attacks will now get a quota of 4% of the total number of vacancies available in Central government jobs in case of direct recruitment by the government officials.
Earlier this number was only Reserved for 3% in the group A, B and C of the reservation categories. It is a reservation provided to the people with more than 40% of specified disabilities, usually termed as benchmark disabilities.
The Department of Personnel and Training recently ensured that all the central government departments reserve at least 1% of all the posts for the people including blind or vision-related sufferers, deaf and hard at hearing, locomotor disabilities like cerebral palsy, leprosy, dwarfism and muscular dystrophy. It also included 1% reservation of post for the people suffering from mental illness or intellectual and learning disabilities.
Any discrimination against the employment of the disables as per the rules listed shall not be here by taken for granted as the department has asked all the government organisations to appoint ‘grievance redressal officers’ whose prime duty is to look after the complaints registered.
