In India, cops have already an unfriendly image in the mind of citizens. In the same line a Chandigarh guy, Sumit Kumar was slapped by a cop when he confronted him about taking on the phone while driving a bike. When Sumit questioned the Chandigarh police head constable, Surinder Singh on Friday he was slapped by him without giving any explanation.

Fortunately, Sumit shot the video which acted as a proof.

Sumit, 29, who works as an event manager, said to Hindustan Times he shot the video at the Sector 36/37 road, Chandigarh. He said he was returning from the DPI office in Sector 9 he spotted the policeman talking on the mobile phone while driving.

When I confronted him about the traffic rule violation, he slapped me. The head constable was not even wearing the helmet properly and had just kept it on his head. When a common man does the same, he is challaned. But if a policeman does it, he slaps the complainant!” , HT quotes Sumit as saying.

The video went viral on the social media with people slamming the city police. Later Congress Leader Manish Tewari requested Chandigarh DGP to take against the constable.

Surinder was immediately suspended after the incident.Chandigarh traffic police also challaned him for not wearing a helmet and also talking on the phone while driving.

“The driving license has been seized and we have written to the transport authority that his license is suspended for 3 months. He has been placed under suspension,” Chandigarh traffic SSP Shashank Anand said.

Kudos to aware citizens like Sumit who without caring about their own safety and harassment bring forward such incidents to our notice. This incident should serve as an example for police officers who think the law is not for them.
