In yet another incident of heinous crimes against women, a 17-year-old Punjab girl was allegedly gang-raped by three youths in Fazilka district on 25th October. The girl passed away due to excessive bleeding on Sunday night.

According to a report by TheQuint, the complaint registered by the victim’s mother states that the heinous crime was committed on 25 October when the girl was returning home from school when three motorcycle-borne youths, including a minor boy, allegedly stopped her. The girl was then taken to a nearby field where she was brutally gang-raped by the three youths.

“The victim, a Class 11 student, was taken to nearby fields where she was raped by the three youths” Deputy Superintendent of Police (Jalalabad) Amarjit Singh was quoted by The Quint. He also added that the family of the victim had not approached the police even after knowing about the crime. The mother of the victim lodged a complaint only after the girl died due to excessive bleeding and the case was reported to the police by a villager.

“The case has been registered, the body is being sent for postmortem. We’ll take further actions after that. No arrests have been made yet,” Deputy Superintendent of Police (Jalalabad) Amarjit Singh said to the media.

Never passes a day when news about such heinous crimes doesn’t appear on our timelines. Rape is the fourth most common crime against women in India. According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) 2013 annual report, 24,923 rape cases were reported across India in 2012.Out of these, 24,470 were committed by someone known to the victim (98% of the cases).

Even as we are reporting this incident another brutal case has come to light where a 100-year-old woman has been raped by drunk youths!

In this case, one of the rapists is a minor, which once again reaffirms our belief that age has nothing to do with the crimes committed. If you are raping someone and killing her brutally how can you be minor anymore?
