GB road is the largest red light area of Delhi which is a home to around 1000 sex workers. A majority of sex workers here are a product of human trafficking or smuggling. In a major number of cases, these girls are brought from various parts of the country by a relative or someone known to them who lure them with a promise of a job or better life. Even after repeated efforts by the police, the illegal business is still mushrooming in the area.

On Wednesday, Delhi police managed to arrest two of human traffickers who had accidentally dialed the number of a police officer assuming him to be a buyer of these girls. Reportedly, the two men Amar and Ranjeet hailing from Supaul district in Bihar were trying to sell a minor girl to the brothels in the red light area.

The trap was laid by the police after someone accidentally dialed the number of
Kamla Market SHO Sunil Kumar inquiring for the selling of a minor girl for prostitution.

According to TheIndianExpress, the Station House Officer of Kamla Market Sunil Kumar had pasted his number across G B Road so that people with leads on trafficking rackets or information on sex workers in need of help can approach the police.

According to police, the accused, Amar, came across a YouTube video, in which he saw the SHO’s number on the walls of a brothel. Thinking him as a probable client Amar called him.

After the cop realized that he has landed upon something important he laid the trap. The cop expressed his interest in the purchasing of the girl and the negotiation began.

After few days of ‘bargaining’ efforts, the price was finalized as Rs 2.3 lakhs for the girl. DCP (central) MS Randhawa said cops in plain clothes laid a trap for the two men who said they will hand over the girl, but the accused later changed the time and venue at the last moment. On Wednesday the dup asked the cops to meet them outside New Delhi railway station in the evening.

Pretending as the brothel owner, the policemen went to meet the duo in plain clothes. After an advance payment of Rs 20000, one of the accused Amar came back with the minor girl.

The police immediately took the duo into custody and rescued the girl. The police said the minor girl was lured by Amar who pretended to be in love with her and asked her to come to Delhi on the pretext of getting a job.

“In October, the minor girl ran away from her family and came to Delhi. Amar then took her to a house and made physical relations with her. After this, he along with his friend decided to sell her off and flee Delhi,” an investigating officer said to Hindustan Times.

SHO had also learned the language of the brothel owners so that he could bargain with the men. SHO Kumar told The Indian Express, “It was difficult talking in that language. But our aim was to rescue the girl. I had even deleted my display picture and uninstalled Truecaller… I also tried to get my details deleted from the application. Then we bargained for a few days before I won his trust.

We appreciate the police officials for taking prompt action and rescuing the minor girl from getting trapped in a dark world of lust and sex.
