We are living in a time when India is going through a digital transition, on one hand, people of older generations are learning to use apps and smartphones and on the other, there are people out there who are trying to harm others by misusing the same. One such app which has made our life easier is Google Maps, the app has always acted as a perfect companion whenever we need it.

And now the Delhi Police has put this app to best of its use. As per a TOI report, on Wednesday night the Delhi cops used this app to unite a lost small girl with her family.
The little girl who is a resident of a village near Meerut, UP was in Delhi with her parents for attending a marriage. The parents were busy in the marriage preparations and Rashmi was playing with other kids.In the process, the girl came out of the wedding venue and unknown to the city she lost her way.Panic and fear gripped her and she started crying.

This is when she was traced by a Delhi Police constable. After knowing about her condition the constable took her to the Malviya Nagar Police Station. The police tried to get some information from the kid but the little girl was too panicked and was unable to answer anything.

Finally, she told the police that she has come to Delhi to attend a marriage. On further questioning, the girl told the cops that it took around 4 hours to her for coming to Delhi.

Reportedly, a perimeter was chalked around Delhi, with all major cities and towns within that distance being marked out. Information was then shared with respective police stations to ascertain if there was any corresponding lead from their end.

Meanwhile, the girl told the cops about the places that she had seen while coming to Delhi. On the basis of the info, police guessed that the girl might belong to somewhere around Uttarakhand or Western UP. Further information by the girl helped the police to zero down at Meerut in UP. The cops guessed she might have boarded the bus from Meerut.

The cops then used satellite view of Google maps to find out the villages around Meerut which have a lake. A list of villages with the matching description was noted and the sarpanch of these villages was contacted by sleuths.

Finally, Rashmi was found to be from Kol village which is at a distance of 44 km from Meerut. The village’s sarpanch confirmed that a child matching Rashmi’s description had gone missing from Delhi. After verifying the claims, the girl was handed over to the family.

We thank the cops for their prompt action and appreciate the use of latest technology in an innovative way to unite the girl with her parents.
