The ongoing protest against the alleged distortion of history in the movie “Padmavati” by the fringe elements reached a new low on Friday when a dead body was found hanging in Rajasthan’s Nahargarh Fort which is at a distance of 20 km from Jaipur.

A warning message was also scratched on a rock nearby which read ,”Hum sirf putle nahi jalate, hum latkate bhi hain”(We just don’t burn effigies, we also hang people)

Another message on a stone read, “We don’t behead, we hang“.’Padmavati Virodh‘ was the message written next to the hanging body.

According to News18 report, officers from the Brahmapuri Police Station were investigating at the spot. The man has been identified as Chetan who was strangled using a plastic wire, the police said. The deceased’s Aadhaar Card was found in his pocket. Till now it is not clear if it was a case of murder or suicide.

Rajput Karni Sena which has been on the forefront of the protest has denied its involvement in the case. Mahipal Singh Makrana, a member of the outfit told his outfit has nothing to do with the case as this is not their way of protest.

Last week, Karni Sena had threatened to chop off the nose of actress Deepika Padukone who is playing the role of Padmavati in the movie. Many outfits and groups have been protesting on the basis of rumors that there was a romantic dream sequence between Rajput queen Padmini and Allauddin Khilji. However, Bhansali has denied the existence of any such scene in the movie.

The open threats and violent protests is really a sad state of affairs for the nation. The fact that even the police and administration is not taking strict actions against these fringe groups and leaders is really a matter of concern. While more details are awaited in the case it might be a work of some antisocial elements to fuel the already ongoing violent protests.
