A school is any child’s second home where s/he spends a considerable amount of time for years. And ensuring proper treatment and security of the kids should be of paramount importance for the educational institutions. However, a few incidents that have been reported over last few days really raise the question about the sensitivity of the school and teachers towards the students.

The first surprising incident was from a school in Tamil Nadu where a teacher period shamed the student who was having her periods for the first time and the traumatised kid committed suicide later. The incident was followed by the brutal murder in Ryan International School in Delhi and rape of a 7-year-old girl by a peon of Tagore Public School Delhi.

Adding to the same list an 11-year-old school girl in Hyderabad was made to stand inside boy’s toilet by the PT teacher for not wearing the proper uniform. The incident took place in Rao’s High School near BHEL area.

The news agency ANI quoted the child as saying, “When I was walking up to my class room; my PT teacher stopped me and enquired about my uniform. I told the truth that my mother washed it so I could not wear the uniform. I also tried to explain that my parents have written a note in my school diary for the excuse. However, the teacher did not listen to me and continued to shout. She later pulled me to the boys’ toilet and made me stand there,” the victim told news agency ANI.

I got scared and didn’t say anything. There were 2-3 teachers including English teachers and tenth class Telugu teacher,” the girl said in a video which was shot by her father.

The victim further told that other boys in the toilet laughed at her, and after some time PT teacher allowed her to go back and told her to not repeat the mistake again. The child is now traumatised and told that she has decided that she would not go to the school again.

As per DNA report, several child rights activists have demanded to register a case against the school under the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

This kind of incidents can surely traumatise the kids and can have a horrible impact on their mental wellness. The teachers in the school should be properly trained on being more sensitive towards the kids.
