We Indians love Cricket, and to such an extent that most of us don’t even care about what is going on in rest of the sports.
But after the Rio 2016 Olympics, there were a few players whose heart winning performances have made them a household name. One among those is of P.V. Sindhu , the first Indian woman to win a silver medal in Badminton at the Olympics . Last week , Sindhu jumped to career best Rank 5 in BWF ranking . She overtook Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi, as per the latest rankings released on Wednesday. This is the first time that Sindhu has broken into the top five and now she is the second woman from India to do so.
But seems like all this was not enough for her to get noticed by our politicians. Or probably they are so busy in ‘developing’ their nation that they fail to recognize our national players who have made India proud on the world map.
On Friday, 5K run was held at Charminar where Sindhu was declared as “Volleyball player” by Mr. Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, the MLA of All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM).
While inaugurating the run the MLA was thanking the organizers and other dignitaries present on the stage. He looked confused when he was about to take PV Sindhu’s name and after having a brief discussion with Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Mahmood Ali, finally said, “We are thankful to PV Sindhu, the volleyball player who has represented Hyderabad on an international platform.” Sindhu chose to smile and ignore the words of the MLA.

What is worse, is that the MLA consulted Deputy Chief Minister M Mahmood Ali for asking what she is famous for and the deputy CM gave a nod after which he came up with his statement. We would like to remind you that Mahmood Ali is the same minister who had promised Sindhu “a better Coach” after she returned from Rio 2016 with a silver medal. Sindhu’s coach is none other than the Ace shuttler Pullela Gopichand. This statement had sparked a debate and people were angry at him. “Sindhu is our daughter. The government will provide a better coach. We are confident that she will win a gold medal,” he said during a TV interview.
Even after the incident, it looks like the Deputy Chief minister is still to do his homework. It is really sad to see the ignorance of our ministers towards the Sportspersons who bring glory to the country.
