In the meantime, the DSP managed to escape with his friend who hosted him that evening. He is suspended and a case has been registered against him under Section 302 of the IPC (murder), according to sources.

The local residents who witnessed the incident demanded serious actions to be taken against the DSP. The CM of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan commented that the DSP has been suspended and that the complaint was of a serious nature. Further investigation is conducted by Negumandan ASP, Sujith Das.

On the issue, BJP said that CPM along with the police were trying to protect Harikumar and hence delaying the probe. According to Manorama, the family of the victim is also unhappy with the investigation procedure that is being carried out.

An official at the Neyyattinkara police station while talking to TheNewsMiute, attempted to downplay the charges against Harikumar, arguing, “It is the car who hit Sanal because of which he died, why not book a case against the car driver?”

Locals also allege that the DSP is a powerful man in the area and knows all the tricks to get out of the case. Moreover, they also suspect that the police department is trying to protect him. The family showing disappointment says they have lost the faith in the police.

Sanal was the lone breadwinner of the family comprising his wife, sister, mother and two children.

The locals of Moonnukallinmoodu and Kodungavila protested against the DSP at the national highway at Moonnukallinmoodu along with Sanal’s body blocking the traffic. The Revenue Divisional Officer rushed in and guaranteed to serve justice to the locals and Sanal’s family, only then was Sanal’s body taken to his house. Sanal is survived by his wife and two kids.

The DSP who bolted away from the spot must be hunted down and sentenced for the felony.
