Vihaan Gupta, son of Sunny Gupta a wholesaler of Plastic Objects who was kidnapped a day before Republic Day in Dilshad Garden Area of New Delhi, was rescued from an apartment in a midnight-rescue operation C-RIVER in Ghaziabad.
The child was kidnapped from the school bus and when the driver tried to save him, he, unfortunately, got shot in the leg by the kidnappers. A week before he was rescued, the officers had got the substantial clues about the identities of the kidnappers, however, to play safe, they remained cautious and patient.

DCP Ram Gopal Naik said the kidnappers had made the first ransom call at 12.50 am on January 28, nearly three days after they dragged Vihaan out of his school bus at gunpoint in east Delhi’s Dilshad Garden.
“Multiple CCTV cameras had captured the kidnappers when they were fleeing after kidnapping Vihaan. They used to make ransom calls from different locations but there was a pattern to it. We put their phone numbers on surveillance. We understood they were based somewhere in Sahibabad but did not know the exact address where the boy was kept,” said Naik.

On Monday evening, the police vans and bikes caught the kidnapper when he was picking up food from Vivek Vihar, and chased him through multiple east Delhi localities for nearly 20 kilometers before finally intercepting his Swift Dzire car in Seemapuri. Before he could call his associates, he was forced to tell the location where the child was kept.

The demand was of 60 Lakhs by the kidnappers Ravi, 24, and Pankaj, 21 and the mastermind of the plan Nitin Kumar Sharma who is a 28-year-old.

Eventually, after reaching the flat, in a gun-fire, one kidnapper was shot dead, and the other was injured and the third one was kept at gunpoint while policemen break the door, later both were arrested. The police took a calculated risk in fractions of seconds during the last minutes of the operation which was proved to be a life-saving risk.
