The movie Lipstick Under My Burkha has been in the controversy and making news in India ever since our sanskaari Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) refused to clear it because it was “lady-oriented”

The story is lady-oriented, their fantasy above life. There are contanious [spelling mistake by board :)] sexual scenes, abusive words, audio pornography and a bit sensitive touch about one particular section of society.
-Statement by CBFC”

However, Prakash Jha, the film’s producer appealed to the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT), against the decision and the film has now got an adult certificate. The movie was also criticized by several Muslim organizations as it talks about the sexuality of women (which is bound to hurt the fragile ego of our patriarchal society).

But, all these hurdles were not enough to stop the movie from acclaiming 10 international awards. The movie is now also eligible for the next prestigious Golden Globe awards 2018.

The official trailer of the controversial movie, Starring Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak Shah, Aahana Kumra, Plabita Borthakur is now out and the movie is scheduled to release on July 21, 2017. The latest poster of the movie also shows a middle finger to our patriarchal society which believes in suppressing the desires and fantasies of a woman.

The trailer is so hard hitting that it may make a few people uncomfortable. The trailer shows the four characters struggling for their freedom, reclaiming their position and discovering their sexuality. In our patriarchal society, woman’s sexuality is still considered a taboo and slut-shaming a woman for her desires and fantasies is nothing new. Lipstick Under My Burkha is directed by Alankrita Shrivastava and produced by Prakash Jha.
