A woman who knew how to portray sensitivity and boldness together and allowed us to know her many selves inclusive of lover, poet, was genuine and warm to the core. Kamala Das, was featured as the google doodle of today. She was fascinating and bold when she mentioned “ I speak 3 languages, write in 2 and think in 1”.
She is famous for her Pseudonyms Madhavikutty and Kamala Das. She married at the age of 15 and fortunately her husband always supported her for her interests.
Her extraordinary writings in Malayalam, largely short fiction and memoirs under the nom de plume Madhavikutty has given her a perennial place in the annals of Malayalam literature.
She had definitely the power of bilingual creativity which comes with impeccable standards in her case.

She lived a life of boldness with her choices and resisted to the labeling of ‘feminist’ and rather preferred different names for herself.
She was awarded Honorary D.Litt by University of Calicut and Muttathu Varkey Award in 2006. Known for her contradictions, at 65 – embraced by the religion Islam, she converted herself to it much after she adopted two blind muslim kids.
