In yet another crime against women, a 32 years old Mumbai woman was allegedly raped by a cab driver in Mira road.According to a Mid-day report, the survivor who is a Thane resident was returning to her place on Thursday when the incident occurred.
On the fateful night, to avoid the overcrowded public bus at Anand Nagar bus stop she decided to take help from tourist vehicles moving in Thane’s direction.

According to the cops, while she was waiting on the spot, she saw an OLA cab coming in her direction with a passenger already seated. She waved her hands to stop it.The driver told her that he was going to Thane and would drop her to which she agreed.

However, the driver, instead of taking her to Thane drove the vehicle towards Vasai. The two men in the car drove the woman to various places for four hours and the driver allegedly raped her in the car. The two also robbed her of her valuables,” a police officer said to Mid-Day.

The two accused then took the girl to a lodge in Vrajeshwari where they continued assaulting her. However, somehow the woman narrated her ordeal to the lodge owner after which he immediately called the cops. Meanwhile, the accused and his friend managed to flee from the spot.

After the woman lodged a complaint with the cops, both the suspects got arrested.Police have lodged a case of rape and robbery against the two. The two men were nabbed on Friday evening from Bhayander. They have been identified as Suresh Pandurang Gosavi, 32, the Ola cab driver and Umesh Jaswant Zala, 31, the passenger.

However, according to ANI report, the cab company OLA has refuted the claim that the crime was committed through their service.Ola has also confirmed that the driver had not logged in at the Ola platform for last four-five days and he was not on any kind of Ola duty at the time of the alleged incident.

While the investigations are still on, the incident once again raises the question about women safety and reminds us of the controversial statement by an MP that women shouldn’t take cabs or autos when there are already some men seated inside it. The status of women safety is so bad that even these nonsense victim blaming statements look like a piece of advice to us, the reason being the failure of the administration in instilling fear in the mind of these victims. We hope the govt works in direction of increasing women safety instead of blaming the victims for the acts.
