In an age where social media is being used as a platform for spreading fake news and hatemongering, it’s certainly the responsibility of big platforms and handles to at least behave responsibly and not blur the line between the fake news and reality.
However, it seems like when it comes to fake news Pakistan is a repeat offender.
But, this time it has caused a big embarrassment to Pakistan as Twitter has suspended a verified handle which goes by the name defencepk for spreading fake pic and putting the life of the girl at risk.

While many media reports state the account as the official Twitter handle of Pakistan Defence, many users have claimed that it is just a blog portal with a similar name.A lot of Twitter users from Pakistan even told that they were reporting this handle since a long time as it was a repeat offender and used to post morphed pics and fake info while posing as the official spokesperson account of Pak Defence which it was allegedly not.

Famous social networking website Twitter suspended the account named ‘Pakistan Defence‘ on Saturday. The handle had posted a compromised photo of an Indian girl to support their anti-India accusation.

The handle had posted a morphed photo of an Indian girl holding a paper displaying hate message against India. The paper read,”I am an Indian, but I hate India because India is a colonial nation that has occupied nations such as Nagas, Kashmiris, Manipuris, Hyderabad, Junagard, Sikkim, Mizoram, Goa.

The original picture was actually taken in front of Delhi’s Jama Masjid in which All India Students’ Association (AISA) Delhi University president Kawalpreet Kaur was showing a paper to support a campaign. The message was:”I am a citizen of India and I stand with secular values of our Constitution. I will write against communal mob lynching of Muslims in our country #CitizensAgainstMobLynching.”

People tagged Twitter in the post and asked it to look into the matter

Twitter investigated this issue and after finding the truth, they suspended the account.

Kawalpreet also shouted out against Pakistan Defence saying, “The message of the picture shouldn’t be lost in these dark times. No nation wants lynchings & killings. Only bigots want hate.”

The move by Twitter was applauded by people from across the borders also

The move by Twitter is really appreciable as accounts spreading hatred and lies should have no place at all. However, in case this handle was not being managed by Pakistan’s Defence, giving a blue tick to such an imposter account was certainly not a right thing to do.
