A seven-year-old Zainab Ansari’s rapist, Imran Ali, was executed in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail in the presence of magistrate Adil Sarwar and Zainab’s father Muhammad Amin on Wednesday.
An ambulance was also present at the spot along with Ali’s brother and two of his friends.
A 45-minute meeting was arranged for the convict and his family members before the impending execution by the jail authorities.
Ali was sentenced to 21 counts of death, three life sentence s and 23 years in jail by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in February this year. He was nabbed by the police forces on January 23 as per the three-day time limit set by Pakistan’s Supreme Court.
Ali confessed to raping nine girls, including Zainab Ansari, the girl whose body was found from a garbage heap five days later, after she went on missing from her aunt’s house on January 4.
As per the reports, the serial killer pleaded guilty during a five-day trial. He told the investigator that he lured the girl by telling her that she should go with him to meet her parents, who were back from Saudi Arabia. He received four death sentences for eight murders on Saturday.
DNA tests confirmed Ali’s role in the girl’s rape and eventual death. Autopsy reports indicated that Zainab was raped before being strangulated to death.
