Breaking all the stereotype regarding communalism, the saints of Saryu Kunj temple in Ayodhya hosted a Roza iftar in the temple premises. Saryu Kunj is a 500 years old heritage, adjacent to the Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid.
Mahant Gyan Das, a priest of famous Hanuman Garhi temple, had previously taken the initiative of hosting on a couple of occasions in the temple premises. But he backed off as internal resistance started growing up.
On Monday, the saints of Saryu Kunj temple decided to spread the message of communal harmony among people, regardless of any kind of personal or political motive behind it. They invited the members of the Muslim community but no political figure or VIPs were included in the guest list. Dates and laddoos were served to guests by Sadhus from the different temple of Ayodhya.
“We want to give a message that there is no political motive behind the move; we just want to spread a message of peace from Ayodhya to the world. Efforts must be made to bridge gaps.” said Saryu Kunj mahant, Jugal Kishore Sharan Shastry to the TOI.
Apart from the iftar, the arrangement was also made for “Maghrib namaz” or evening prayer. A seminar against communalism took place before the evening prayer was offered. Students and teachers from the local colleges showed interest and took part in the seminar. A pledge was taken to counter any possibility of communal tension.
“We are of the opinion that efforts must be made to bridge the gaps between the two communities. Hosting iftar for Muslim brothers is a good opportunity to bring both the communities closer, so we decided to give a message of peace through this roza iftar.” Mahant Raghusharan Das, a priest was quoted as saying by the TOI.
Muzammil, an Urdu poet and a resident of Ayodhya stated to the TOI, in accordance to the move made by the Saryu Kunj temple, “Being a minority in Ayodhya, we have never felt unsafe, thanks to our Hindu brothers who never made us feel that have to worry about any danger here.”
Needless to mention that the move made by the saints of Saryu Kunj temple was incredible. Spreading the message of communal harmony and building up fraternity among commoners could not be done in a better way.
