Sexual harassment has become way too common in almost every work field. And things get worse for Bollywood divas and a fearless Swara Bhaskar opens up about this horror behind the on-screen Glamour.Harvey Weinstein, Dustin Hoffman, Kevin Spacey, Chris Savino, Ben Affleck, and James Toback. As Hollywood movie lover you must have come across these names. But it’s recent that stories of sexual exploration by these big name have come to limelight.

Similarly, Swara says, Bollywood has a dark side where women face harassment and are asked for some ‘compromises’. But not many choose to speak or fight back. Many, almost the majority, doesn’t point to the elephant in the room for the sake of bagging roles, big or small.

The villains are at an authoritarian position or the ones who sigh paycheques. She, like many others actresses has been stalked, tried to be hit upon by her director but didn’t succumb to the adversity thrown at her.

Swara said to Mumbai Mirror, “I’ve been propositioned by men who were in a position to cast me. I lost a few roles because I didn’t give in. It made me vulnerable, nervous. Some people even stopped responding to my messages because they knew I would not give in. Being an articulate, educated girl they sensed that I would not take things lying down.

There have been catcalls during shoots and eve-teasing on one of my sets. I’ve been groped by a mob during promotions and during a 56-day outdoor at a remote location, when I was still fairly new, the director harassed me with texts and dinner invites. He stalked me during the day and called me through the night.

I was asked to go to his hotel room on the pretext of discussing the scene and would find him drinking. During the first week itself, he started talking about love and sex and one night, arrived in my room, drunk, and asked to be hugged. It was scary!”

Eve-teased at the set and groped during promotion Swara chose never too give in but stay firm even at cost of some roles.

She further speaks, everyone being linked to other in some relationship makes things more difficult to oppose. As in Malayalam film industry,anti-sexual harassment committee is a demand of the time in Bollywood industry too. It’s really brave of this lady to be so straight forward on casting couch.
