Wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, the 2012 London Olympics bronze medallist, has always set an example for the society. Be it taking a stand when a movie star was named Rio Games goodwill ambassador or deciding to not aspire for a deceased wrestler’s Olympic medal, Dutt has always been the trend-setter.

And Dutt has done it again. But this time it’s not about wrestling fight in a ring but a bold and inspiring decision of accepting just a token of Re 1 as shagun on his wedding which has been scheduled on January 16 in Delhi.

The bride-to-be, Sheetal, is the daughter of Haryana Congressman Jaibhagwan Sharma.

When asked about his unique stand, he said, “I have seen my family struggle to collect dowry for the girls of the family, As a result, I decided on two things while growing up — I will excel in wrestling and I will not accept dowry. My first dream has been realized and now it is time to keep my second promise.”

Further, he said that he is missing his father Rammeher Dutt and his first guru Master Satbir Singh who are no more in this world to see him fulfill both his promises.

Yogeshwar’s mother Sushila Devi said his marriage was a special occasion and they would accept Re 1 as a mark of good omen from the bride’s family, but nothing else.

Thanks for this move Yogeshwar !
